Siegel Coach Greg Wyant said Saturday that senior quarterback Brent Stockstill has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and partially torn meniscus in his right knee, following a hit during Friday’s 33-20 Class 6A quarterfinal win over Riverdale.
Wyant said a complete diagnosis should be made Monday following Saturday’s MRI, and that no decision has been made regarding Stockstill’s availability for this week’s semifinal matchup with visiting defending state champion Maryville.
Siegel improved to 13-0 with the win.
“He’s got a chance to play with a brace if he could handle the pain, but he’d be very limited in what he could do,” Wyant said. “We’ve just got to prepare for the worst.”
Stockstill, who missed time as a junior with an injury to the same meniscus, threw for 178 yards with a touchdown and ran for another 24 Friday night.
A Tennessean Dandy Dozen selection and a Class AAA Mr. Football finalist, Stockstill has 2,253 passing yards and 638 rushing yards on the year with 38 total TDs.
Siegel’s No. 2 quarterback is junior Dakota Crane, who has completed four of six passes for 71 yards with a touchdown and an interception along with 69 rushing yards on 12 carries.
En route to last year’s title, Maryville faced Riverdale’s backup quarterback, Andrew Dale, in the semifinals after starter Dillon Woodruff suffered a knee injury in the Warriors’ quarterfinal win over Oak Ridge.
