Putting together a high school softball tournament in Middle Tennessee often requires a fair amount of juggling ability.
Marshall Winkler can relate.
The Franklin/Sonic Invitational, originally set for Friday and Saturday at Fly Park, has been reduced from a two-day, 27-team event to a one-day affair with 21 squads.
“We had a couple that decided not to come because of the weather, but a few that changed their minds for other reasons,” said Winkler, alluding to the rain that has been forecast for Friday.
“Friday looks terrible.”
Winkler hopes to begin play around 10 a.m. Saturday and get each of the participating teams “three or four games” at the facility located on the eastern outskirts of Franklin.
“With six fields, we ought to be able to do that,” he said.
Currently set to play, in addition to the Lady Rebels, are: Lincoln County, Camden, Collierville, Independence, Coalfield, Page, East Robertson, White House, Maplewood, Richland, Hume-Fogg, Sycamore, Ezell-Harding, Huntland, Lewis County, Oliver Springs, Father Ryan, Siegel, Friendship Christian and Fairview.
